Beginner Motorcyclist Course

CMSP Motorcyclist Training Course

Learn the basics of riding safely in a controlled environment, designed for the novice rider with zero experience on a motorcycle. The 15-hour course includes both classroom and on-cycle instruction. You will learn fundamental skills required to operate a motorcycle and progress to street riding skills and strategies. Please note, to take the Motorcyclist Training Course, you must be able to ride a bicycle.

Live Online Classroom

This course is a two or three day course depending on the format you choose. Either way, it's a 15 hour course with two Zoom classes, and two in-person riding sessions

DMV skills test waiver

Upon successful completion, earn a DMV skills test waiver (DL389) which may waive the riding skills test at the California DMV

We're part of the California Motorcyclist Safety Program and are certified to teach the Motorcyclist Training Course using the Total Control curriculum

Through guided riding exercises and drills, you can enhance you riding abilities, build confidence, and develop important muscle memory for safe riding techniques

Beginner-Level Course

15 hours of learning with 5 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of on-cycle instruction The riding range is at a parking lot, on a closed course free of traffic

What do I have to wear?
CMSP requires a durable leather or textile motorcycle-specific jacket, sturdy long pants without rips or holes, full fingered street-specific motorcycle or leather gloves, tough, over-the-ankle shoes or boots and eye protection (glasses, sunglasses, face shield, etc). We can provide a helmet, but if you bring your own, it must be three-quarter, full face or modular and DOT approved.
