This course is a two or three day course depending on the format you choose. Either way, it's a 15 hour course with two Zoom classes, and two in-person riding sessions. Upon successful completion of our written test and skills test, you'll receive an official DMV document, DL389, that may waive the riding test. You'll still need to complete the DMV written test, and successful completion of the test will earn you your license. Typical course layouts are below:
The California Motorcyclist Safety Program Motorcyclist Training Course (CMSP MTC) is designed for the novice rider with no (or limited) street-riding experience. This course includes both classroom and on-cycle instruction. You will learn fundamental skills required to operate the motorcycle and progress to street riding skills and strategies.
Topics covered include fear, understanding how motorcycles turn, proper cornering strategies, and emergency crash avoidance skills. The course is based on the most current research in rider safety and utilizes modern training methods.
Though designed for new riders, any rider who has not taken a motorcycle course will benefit from this clinic. Motorcycles and helmets are provided in this course.
Whether you want to learn to ride a motorcycle for daily transportation or weekend cruises, the skills and knowledge you'll gain from this class will prepare you for riding in many conditions. From navigating Bay Area rush hour traffic, to cruising the Pacific Coast, you will enjoy the ride with your new sense of confidence, ability to maneuver in situations, and knowledge of internal and external hazards.
Learn the basics of safe motorcycle riding in a controlled environment and receive the DMV riding skill test waiver after successful course completion. Our basic riding course was designed, based on the Total Control, for people with zero experience on a motorcycle. We provide motorcycles and helmets during the course.
Class schedule consists of 5 hours of classroom instruction and 10 hours of riding practice.
